Q: Do you make a fuel door for my (fill in the blank) vehicle?

A: If your vehicle is mentioned on our website's ordering page, then YES. If not, then NO. This is not to say that one won't fit, but at a minimum, a GOOD body shop would have to modify your quarterpanel opening to get one of our fuel doors to fit perfectly. This may include body work and a repaint of the area. Top

Q: You have fuel doors for different vehicles, but they all look the same. Are they interchangeable?

A: No. There are slight differences in the contours and dimensions of the fuel doors, due to the difference in body panels. Even though the exterior of the fuel doors look similar, they may have a totally different curvature on the backside of the fuel door, or it may be slightly larger or smaller. This is the reason why our fuel doors fit better than any other out there. They are not a one-size-fits-all fuel door, like many of our competitors. Top

Q: Since you don't make a fuel door for my (fill in the blank) vehicle, can you make me a custom one?

A: As much as we'd love to, it wouldn't make good business sense to spend that kind of R&D and labor on a single door, unless you'd like to pay us for our efforts. To put things in perspective, it can cost upwards of several thousand dollars to tool up for a new product. This is the cost for: (1) acquiring a quarterpanel from a donor (junkyard) vehicle, (2) sculpting several prototypes, (3) making the molds, (4) machining prototype parts, (5) testing, testing, testing. It's not as simple as it seems. Top

Q: My car is not listed on your ordering page. I want the fueldoor! What does it take?

A: It's going to take time, money and some work on your part. In general, you will have to modify your quarterpanel to fit one of our existing fueldoors. If you're serious about performing this modification, we send you a sample fueldoor ring. Take the ring and your vehicle to a good body shop (we recommend one that specializes in custom show vehicles) and have them modify your quarterpanel to fit the ring. Once that is done, you order the fueldoor kit and it should fit your vehicle (depending on the skill of your body shop). You will most likely need to repaint your quarterpanel due to the bodywork.Top

Q: How much does your custom engraving cost and how do I go about getting a quote?

A: You must email us a black and white version of your artwork (.jpg or vector file is fine). The artwork must be sized to fit within a 3.25" diameter circle. Pricing varies depending on the complexity of the artwork, but averages about $200.00 and up. Top

Q: Can I get a fuel door engraved with the (fill in the blank) logo?

A: If it's a logo of your own design, then yes we can engrave the logo on your fuel door. If it's a licensed logo (belonging to another company or organization), then you will need to supply us with written permission from the owner of the logo. Top

Q: How long does it take to make a custom fuel door?

A: Typical turnaround times are 4-6 weeks, depending on the vendor (polishing and engraving services are done by trusted vendors, and we have no control over their schedule). But these unique fuel doors are truly one-of-a-kind and worth the wait! Top

Q: I'd like a fuel door with this option, that option, and the other option. How much will it cost?

A: Go to our ordering page, find the fuel door you want, the options you want, and add the price up. If you are in California, then add 8.25%. Shipping in the continental US is $15.00 flat rate. For other areas, contact us for shipping rates. Top

Q: I see your fuel door on vehicles that you don't make a fuel door for. How did they do it?

A: For those car owners who are serious about doing a non-standard installation, the process goes like this: (1) We send the ring of a fuel door to the owner. (2) The owner modifies his quarterpanel to fit the ring. (3) Once the bodywork is finished, we send the owner the complete fuel door which will then drop right in. Top

Q: How hard is the install for a fuel door?

A: If you know how to use a drill, ratchet, and wrench, then it shouldn't be hard at all. It takes us approximately 30 minutes to install an electric locking fuel door, and even less for a manual locking door. Top

Q: Do I have to drill into my quarterpanel to install the fuel door?

A: No. All Pro-Fit linear fuel doors are designed to mount without modifying the quarterpanel. You can easily return your car to stock and no one will notice. Top

Q: Is it possible to trigger the electric locking fuel door with my alarm remote?

A: If you have an alarm with an extra channel, then yes you can. Top

Q: What's the best way to keep my fueldoor looking new?

A: For painted, powdercoated, anthrocite or clearcoated fueldoors, you can use a simple one-step cleaner/wax such as Meguiar's and a soft cotton towel. Treat it just like your car's paint.

For polished fueldoors, use a non-abrasive aluminum polish such as Wenol and a soft cotton towel.

For brushed finish fueldoors, add a small amount of 3-in-1 oil (available from your local auto parts store) to a soft cotton towel and rub it into the fueldoor in a back and forth motion, following the grain. If the fueldoor is heavily oxidized, get a sheet of Scotch-Brite scouring pad (large enough to cover the face of the fueldoor) and lay it flat on a table. Remove the fueldoor and place it face down onto the Scotch-Brite pad, then rub in a straight back and forth motion, making sure you follow the grain. Follow up with the 3-in-1 oil, then re-install.

For chrome plated fueldoors, use a non-abrasive chrome cleaner and a soft cotton towel. Top

Q: My fueldoor seems to be sticking. How do I fix this?

A: Purchase 3-in-1 oil from your local auto parts store. Do NOT use any other substance on the mechanism except 3-in-1 oil. Pop open and rotate your cap to expose the linear mechanism. Place a few drops of 3-in-1 oil onto each shaft, then rotate the cap back into position. Gently push the cap inward, but don't let it lock closed. Allow the fueldoor to spring back open. Repeat this back and forth motion for a minute to allow the 3-in-1 oil to clean the shafts and bearings. After a minute, wipe the shafts with a soft cotton towel and reapply a few drops of fresh 3-in-1 oil and you're done. Top

Q: What is your return policy?

A: Visit our Terms and Conditions page by clicking here. Top

Q: Do you sponsor vehicles? If so, what are your sponsorship terms?

A: On a case-by-case basis, yes. A big part of sponsorship is ROI (return on investment). If you are looking to be sponsored, it's not enough to simply ask for a sponsorship. We get dozens of emails every week asking for sponsorship. You have to have a proven record of promotional value (magazine features, tech articles, show trophies, etc.). Your chances of sponsorship are greater if we've never sponsored a vehicle similar to yours. You must submit to us a formal written sponsorship proposal listing your car's achievements and explain to us how you will maximize our ROI. Submitting a formal written proposal does not guarantee a sponsorship. Anything less than a formal proposal will be ignored - if you don't take the time to sell us on your vehicle, why should we take the time to give you something for free? Top

Q: The words "Electric" and "Fuel" sound like a dangerous combination. Is your electric locking fuel door safe?

A: Perfectly safe. While an electric actuator is used to trigger the fuel door release, the actuator is remotely mounted away from the fuel filler neck and a long pull cable connects it to the fuel door mechanism. The actuator pulls on the cable which triggers the door to release. No electricity is anywhere near the fuel door and no electricity flows through the pull cable. Top

Q: I've seen other companies selling the exact same fuel door. What's the deal?

A: If they have the same patented linear mechanism (pops out then rotates), then we made them. Only on our website, however, will you be able to get the many options available. Placing an order here goes directly to the manufacturer for processing. Top

Q: What are your email addresses?

A: info@fueldoors.com for general information. Your email will then be routed to the appropriate department.Top

Q: Why don't you post your phone number on your website?

A: Making fueldoors that are up to our high standards demands a lot of time and dedication. Being the small specialty company that we are, we just cannot afford to tie up our staff with answering phone calls. We make up for it by constantly checking emails throughout the day. Rest assured that we always respond to inquiries as quickly as possible.Top
